Unlock bootloader for your Google Nexus device

If you have a Google Nexus device, or a Google Play edition device, or an Android One device, it’s a good possibility that you’ll like to do one thing. You may already know what I mean. Yep, unlock the bootloader.

So, why do I need to unlock the bootloader of my Nexus device? The main reason is that an unlocked bootloader will provide you a deeper access to your device. Such as, you can access and write to the system partition, you can modify system file, and more. There are many benefits, I do not say anymore.

Then, how should I unlock the bootloader for my Google Nexus device? That is a point I trying to make is.

It is important to note that unlocking bootloader will let your device back to factory state on some devices. At this point, you data will be wiped out fully. And in most cases the warranty of your device will be also unavailable.

Unlock The Bootloader For Nexus Device

No matter which kind of Android device you’re using, please make sure you have enable USB debugging. And if your Nexus device is running on Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher, you need to enable OEM unlock. Then you need a computer, Windows? Mac OS X? Linux? That’s OK. Here is Windows.

  • You must have ADB installed and USB Driver on your computer
  • Connect your device to computer
  • You may see a confirmed message that says Allow USB Debugging? on your computer, please confirm it by tapping OKComputer.Allow.USB.Debugging
  • Open command prompt window from your computer
  • Change directory path to ADB
  • Type and press Enter key to execute command:
    adb devices
  • If there is no problem, you’ll see device’s serial number under List of devices attached in your command prompt windowADB.Devices
  • Reboot your device to bootloader mode by typing and executing command:
    adb reboot bootloader
  • Your device is now in bootloader modeNexus.Fastboot.Mode
  • Unlock the bootloader of your device by typing and executing command:
    fastboot flashing unlock
    or (for older devices)
    fastboot oem unlock
  • You will see a confirmed message that says Unlock bootloader? on your device’s screen, please highlight Yes by using Volume Up button, then confirm it by using Power buttonConfirm.Nexus.Bootloader.Unlock
  • Wait for the unlocking process to complete
  • Once it is completed, reboot your device by typing and executing command:
    fastboot reboot
  • You device should be now in bootloader mode, you can find reminded or unlocked information that says LOCK STATE – unlocked or Your device software can’t be checked for corruption. Please look the bootloader on your screen of your device. On this you’ll be reminded every you restart your deviceBootloader.unlocked.fastboot.mode
  • Ignore it, generally boot your device by pressing Power button

Congratulations to you! Your bootloader of device is now unlocked.
