Flash unified TWRP 3.0.3 RC1 for Xiaomi Mi Max and Mi Max Prime

For those who don’t understand what is TWRP, it is currently a most popular custom Recovery service for Android platform. With TWRP, you can flash custom ROMS Kernels and tweaks you liked for your Android device, you can also back up or restore your Android device, and much more. 

Thanks XDA recognized developer TheStrix, an unified TWRP 3.0.3 RC1 (Release Candidate 1) is now available for Xiaomi Mi Max (hydrogen) and Mi Max Prime (helium).Xiaomi.Mi.Max.and.Mi.Max.Prime

The TWRP 3.0.3 RC1 is a newer version than the official version of Team Win. At this point, the 3.0.3 is currently official version of TWRP for Xiaomi Mi Max and v3.0.2 is for Mi Max Prime .

According to the original developer, this unified TWRP supports MTP, USB OTG, full encryption, f2fs file system, ADB root and full SELinux.

As I mentioned, the version is currently 3.0.3 RC1, so the file you downloaded is twrp-3.0.3-rc1-hydrogen.img. As an unified TWRP, it can be used to Xiaomi Mi Max (hydrogen) and also be for Mi Max Prime (helium).

It is currently v3.0.3 for Xiaomi Mi Max and 3.0.2 for Xiaomi Mi Max Prime, the latest files are now twrp-3.0.3-0-hydrogen.img and twrp-3.0.2-0-helium.img respectively.

You can flash the TWRP recovery you needed by using ADB command.

Flash TWRP with ADB Command (Windows)

  • Make sure you have ADB configured on your computer
  • Make sure you have the correct Xiaomi USB driver installed on your computer, if you have not, there is some driver files for you, Xiaomi-usb-driver-MIUI-v2-1.rar, Xiaomi-Driver-MIUI-v4v5-2-2s.rar and  Android ADB Generic Setup.rar 
  • Enable USB Debugging on your Xiaomi device
  • Enable OEM unlock on your Xiaomi device
  • Make sure you have an unlocked bootloader on your Xiaomi device
  • For convenience, rename your TWRP img file twrp-x.x.x-xxx-hydrogen.img to a more simple name, such as recovery.img
  • Copy the recovery.img to the folder where the ADB is configured
  • Now connect your Xiaomi device to your computer
  • Open command prompt window on your computer, then type and perform:
    adb reboot bootloader
  • Your Xiaomi device is now in Fastboot Mode
  • Type and perform:
    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  • Once you have completed the flashing, reboot your Xiaomi device by typing and performing:
    fastboot reboot
  • Please pressing the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time don’t wait until the device is fully boot
  • You are in your recovery mode, please make sure to swipe to allow modification if need be
